Big Sky Institute’s Permanent Endowment Fund: A Valuable Tool for Long Term Sustainability

In May of 2013, a permanent, unrestricted endowment fund was established by a Helena-area donor to support BSI’s mission to build Montana’s communities by strengthening nonprofits and expanding philanthropy.

BSI’s permanent endowment fund:

  • Encourages gifts of all sizes by supporters who care about BSI’s mission
  • Is a vehicle for memorial, honorarium and legacy gifts
  • Enhances BSI’s sustainability by increasing revenue diversification

Supporters of BSI can contribute to the endowment through:

  • Outright gifts of cash or securities
  • Qualified Charitable Deductions (QCDs) and Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from retirement accounts
  • Bequests in a last will and testament or bequest-like instruments such as a retirement plan and life insurance
  • Irrevocable planned gifts
